This was the second episode in a row that Dennis Smith directed. DiNozzo, Todd and a guest character discuss a rule #23...never mess with a marine's coffee if you want to live. The writers have Gibbs throw a football in this episode. Todd mentions she went to Catholic school for 12 years, and DiNozzo asks her if she still has the pleated skirt. Gibbs rewards McGee with coffee. Gibbs bribes Abby with Caf Pow.

Not exactly a headslap, but Todd did spend some time throwing McGee around the Gym. Gibbs does smack DiNozzo on the face after knocking him down. Todd asks Gibbs if he is looking for a reason to whack a character in the head. Gibbs bribes Abby with Caf Pow. DiNozzo smacks McGee on the head. Todd tells DiNozzo that she thought he was the only one who could: "piss him (Gibbs) off like that". Dinozzo replies: "You haven't met his second wife." Gibbs and Fornell have one of their "elevator meetings". Gibbs smacks DiNozzo in the head. DiNozzo smacks McGee on the head. John Kelley definitely has a "thing" for the whole head-smack meme. Gibbs tells a mob boss that his father "passesd" years ago. Gibbs also tells the mob boss he'll send him the names and addresses of his three ex-wives.

The episode opens with Gibbs in the autopsy room, opening a body bag while Ducky watches him. Todd is in the bag, with a bullet wound in the center of her forehead. Gibbs looks up to see a smiling Ari. McGee's eighth appearance. He was in the last five episodes of the season. Palmer's third appearance, all in a row. Lots of re-occurring characters in this episode. Gibbs tells Todd rule #7: "Always be specific when you lie." DiNozzo is again portrayed as a movie buff. This is a definite change in the character since the early episodes. Todd headsmacks DiNozzo. Todd gets kidnapped by Ari's crew. We see Ducky's meat puzzle for the first time. Gibbs talks to Cassidy by video in MTAC. Ari kills the blonde jogger working with him, and reveals he is Mossad to Todd. Gibbs shoots Ari in the shoulder at the end of the episode.

DiNozzo asks Todd why she always thinks the boyfriend is to blame, even though he always thinks the wife is to blame. Gibbs lights a candle with his Marine Zippo while they are in the church. McGee and Abby have a discussion about their relationship with the gender roles reversed.

We see NCIS Agent Pacci ask Gibbs for help on a case, but Gibbs is too busy to deal with him. This foreshadows the next episode. Ducky tells Gibbs that he thinks Ari went to school in England. While interrogating a suspect, Gibbs tells him he caught his wife (doesn't specify how many or which) cheating, but he chose divorce not murder. (Roxana Zal and Sasha Alexander are HOT for their age) The red haired woman meets Gibbs by the elevator and they talk briefly. Gibbs kisses her on the cheek. Gibbs says he's dropping off his glasses.
